Length
The Galaxy II is Van Os Medical's large 'maxi size' road scooter, sold in the UK under its Excel brand. The Motability Scheme lists the four-wheel version as the Galaxy 4 (first under Van Os Medical, now under Excel Mobility), which is the name on our system. It is not the three-wheel Galaxy II 3, and not the newer Galaxy EVO models. Its top speed is 8 mph. Van Os says it handles gravel, grass, pavements and bumpy roads.
The captain's seat swivels right round. It has a headrest that adjusts in height, and the seat height and backrest angle adjust. The armrests adjust in height and width, flip back and come off. The tiller adjusts in angle and has a multi-function LCD display. Van Os's 2020 table also lists a delta (wrap-around) handlebar. It has full LED lights, a non-slip foot mat and a removable front basket with a carry handle.
It is big and heavy: 146 cm long, 65 cm wide and 130 cm high, and 127 kg with its batteries, by Van Os's figures.
The batteries are two 12 V 75Ah in Van Os's 2024 portfolio (its 2020 catalogue said 90Ah), charged with a 24 V 8 A charger. Van Os says the range of 25 to 35 miles varies with the rider's weight, battery condition, weather and ground. Van Os offered solid tyres on the Shiraz Red, Gun Metal Grey and Lightning Blue scooters.
