About the Sterling S800
The S800 is made by Scoozy, a Dutch company, and sold in the UK by Sunrise Medical under its Sterling name. It suits riders who used to cycle: you steer with a bicycle-style handlebar and speed up with a thumb throttle. Let go of the throttle and it slows itself to a stop, and a parking brake comes on. A handbrake on the handlebar is for emergencies, and it locks on as a parking brake. It has cruise control, a full-colour display with a USB charging port, and it can be locked: it then unlocks with an NFC key tag held against the display, or a four-digit code. The thumb throttle and handbrake are on the right as standard; the dealer can move them, so some have them on the left.
Its top speed is 8 mph, so it is a Class 3 scooter for roads as well as pavements. It is made for town streets and countryside paths. The four 18-inch air tyres come with a rough trail tread as standard; some have slick City tyres, which are quieter on paved ground. There is a rubber spring at the front and adjustable hydraulic suspension at the back. It climbs kerbs and obstacles up to 100 mm and slopes up to 10 degrees, with 100 mm of ground clearance.
The 24 V 70Ah lithium-ion battery sits under the footplate, which leaves an open footwell. It gives up to 50 km (31 miles) on a charge, depending on the ground, the rider's weight, how it is driven and the temperature. The battery warms itself in cold weather before it charges, and it recharges a little when the scooter brakes. A full charge from the 8 A charger can take up to 12 hours.
The seat swivels, slides forward and back, and has a headrest and armrests; the backrest angle and the armrest angle adjust. Your dealer can set the seat height. The handlebar height and the steering column angle adjust too. It has LED lights, brake lights and indicators, and mounting tubes for a canopy, a stick or walker holder or an oxygen holder. Some have a front accessory bar, a basket, a phone holder, mirrors or a lap strap.
It is 1370 mm long, 680 mm wide and weighs 100 kg with its battery. The seat lifts off without tools; with the slide it is the heaviest part at 18 kg. In January 2026 Sunrise announced a stronger motor, comfort-compound tyres and a steering column with less play, so the motor, tyres and steering column may differ from one scooter to another.
