About the Kozmo Portable

The Kozmo Portable is one of Quantum Rehab's smallest powerchairs. Quantum made it for confined spaces and indoor use, such as narrow corridors, doorways and awkward rooms, and it can be used outdoors too. It is 574 mm wide and 838 mm long, and it turns within 645 mm. Two motors drive the rear wheels at up to 3.6 mph (5.8 km/h), so it is a Class 2 powerchair, for pavements and indoors. The 9-inch drive tyres and 6-inch front castors are solid, so they cannot puncture. It climbs obstacles up to 40 mm and handles slopes up to 6 degrees.

To carry it in a car or store it, the Kozmo comes apart into four pieces using its release levers: the seat, the battery box, and the front and rear halves of the base. Quantum give the base as 30.4 kg (both halves together), the seat as 22 kg and the battery box as 14.06 kg. Two 18Ah batteries give a range of up to 10 miles by Quantum's UK page (their spec sheet says up to 13.8 miles). They charge from a separate 3.5 amp charger. The control is Quantum's GC3 hand control.

Each Kozmo was set up for its first user. Seats are 12 to 18 inches wide and deep. A flip-up foot platform is standard; some chairs have swing-away or elevating swing-away legrests, or a children's fixed foot platform instead. The maximum user weight is 91 kg (14 st 4 lb), or 113 kg (17 st 11 lb) on a chair with swing-away legrests, by Quantum's spec and sell sheets. It has no powered seat functions. It is not crash tested, so nobody should sit in it while it travels in a vehicle.
