Before you buy a used Galaxy Compact II Evo

How fast and how far does the Galaxy Compact II EVO go?

Up to 8 mph on the road, and a button halves the speed for shopping centres and built-up areas. Van Os gives a range of up to 40 km (24.8 miles) on one battery and up to 80 km (49.7 miles) with the optional second battery. Those figures were measured in ideal conditions with a 75 kg rider. A heavier rider, hills, cold weather and an older battery all shorten them; Van Os says the range can be up to 30% less below 10°C.

Why does each listing look different?

Each Galaxy Compact II EVO was sold with one lithium battery, or with a second one as an option for twice the range. Each listing says how many batteries that scooter has, and we're happy to go through it on the phone.

What is the maximum user weight, and how big is the seat?

136 kg (21.4 stone). The seat is 46 cm wide and 46 cm deep, swivels and has a headrest. Its height is set by a dealer, between 47 and 49.5 cm.

Can it manage kerbs and slopes?

Van Os's user manual says never to drive up or down a kerb higher than 4 cm, and gives a maximum safe slope of 10°. Use dropped kerbs where you can.

Can it be carried in a car or van?

Van Os gives its weight as 91 kg. To carry it in a vehicle, Van Os's manual says to strap it down by the four tie-down points under the frame, and nobody may sit on it while it travels.

How is it charged?

With its 24 V 8 A lithium charger, which plugs into the charging socket on the scooter. Van Os says to use only the original charger. When the scooter is not being used, Van Os says to top up the battery once every two months and keep it somewhere frost-free, at 6°C or above.
