Before you buy a used Zest

How fast and how far does the Zest go?

Up to 4 mph. TGA's manual gives a range of up to 8 miles on the standard 12Ah batteries and up to 14 miles on the 22Ah batteries, with a 14 stone (90 kg) rider; TGA's page says 10 and 16 miles. Hills shorten the range a lot, and the rider's weight and the ground also affect it.

What is the maximum user weight?

133 kg, just under 21 stone, from TGA's launch news. TGA's current page and manual say 135 kg (21 stone); we go by the lowest figure.

Will it fit in a car boot?

It is made to. It comes apart into the seat, the battery pack, the front section with the tiller folded down, and the rear section. The whole scooter weighs 50 kg with the standard batteries. TGA does not give the weight of each piece, and says the seat is heavy, so someone may need help lifting it.

How is it charged?

Switch the scooter off, then plug the charger into the socket on the tiller or on the battery pack. A full charge takes up to 12 hours, and TGA says this can grow as the batteries age. TGA says to charge it every 4 to 6 weeks when it is not being used.

Can it be used on the road?

No. It is a Class 2 scooter, for pavements and indoors. TGA says a Class 2 scooter can only go on the road to cross it, or where there is no pavement.
