Used TGA WHILL Model C2

The WHILL Model C2 is a compact powerchair with omni-wheels at the front, which let it turn in a 760 mm radius. It goes up to 4 mph and up to 11 miles on a charge (TGA's figure; WHILL's own brochure says 20 km, about 12.4 miles). It comes apart into four pieces for a car boot, the heaviest 19.4 kg, and its lithium battery is approved for air travel. It is made by WHILL, a Japanese company, and sold in the UK by TGA Mobility.

Before you buy a used WHILL Model C2

How fast and how far does the Model C2 go?

Up to 4 mph (6 km/h) in the UK. TGA gives a range of up to 11 miles (18 km); WHILL's current brochure says 20 km (12.4 miles). The rider's weight, hills, cold weather and an older battery all shorten it.

What is the maximum user weight?

It depends on the seat: 115 kg (18 st 1 lb) with the 16-inch seat, and 136 kg (21 st 5 lb) with the 18- or 20-inch seat. Those are WHILL's figures, and they include anything you carry. TGA's page gives 136 kg for every seat, so check the seat width of the chair.

Will it go in a car?

It does not fold, but it comes apart in four steps into four pieces: the seat (12.2 to 13.1 kg), the rear drive base (19.4 kg), the front drive base (17.6 kg) and the battery (2.7 kg). TGA says the pieces fit into a car boot.

Can I take it on a plane?

Its lithium-ion battery is approved for air travel, and WHILL says the chair can go in the hold. Airlines set their own rules for powerchairs and batteries, so check with yours before you book.

What are the C2 Support and C2 Support Plus?

Versions of the Model C2 that TGA sells with an NXT EXTEND thoracic backrest (Support) or that backrest and a headrest (Support Plus). TGA gives them the same speed, range and weight limit, and a weight of 53.5 kg.
