Used TGA Breeze S4

The TGA Breeze S4 is a large Class 3 road scooter with four wheels, full suspension and big pneumatic tyres on alloy wheels. It goes up to 8 mph and up to 20 miles on its standard batteries, or 30 miles on the long-range ones (TGA's manual; TGA's page says 24 and 34 miles). TGA builds each one to order, so batteries, canopy, controls and upgrades vary from scooter to scooter: each listing says what that scooter has.

Before you buy a used Breeze S4

How fast and how far does the Breeze S4 go?

Up to 8 mph on the road, and about 4 mph on the slow setting for pavements. The MAX version is limited to 6 mph for more pulling power. On a charge it goes up to 20 miles on the standard batteries or up to 30 miles on the long-range batteries (TGA's manual; TGA's page says 24 and 34 miles). These are the maker's figures; hills, the rider's weight, cold weather and older batteries all shorten them.

What is the maximum user weight?

31 stone (about 196 kg; TGA's spec table says 31.5 stone / 200 kg). A Breeze S4 with the MAX upgrade carries up to 39 stone.

Why does each listing look different?

TGA builds every Breeze S4 to order. The batteries (standard or long range), the canopy, the controls (left-hand drive, twist grip or foot pedal) and the GT and MAX upgrades all vary. Each listing says what that scooter has, and we're happy to go through it on the phone.

What do the GT and MAX upgrades do?

The GT has large golf-style rear wheels for extra grip and big mudflaps. The MAX has a larger seat and carries up to 39 stone, with the top speed reduced to 6 mph to give more pulling power.

Can it go in a car?

No. It is a large road scooter: 187 cm long with the rear box and 148 kg. The seat comes off and the tiller lies flat, but it needs a large van with a ramp. Most owners keep it in a garage or shed.

Is it comfortable on rough ground?

Yes, that is what it is built for. It has adjustable suspension on all four wheels, large pneumatic tyres and 12.5 cm of ground clearance (TGA's page says 15 cm).
