Before you buy a used Sterling Sapphire 2

How fast does the Sapphire 2 go?

Up to 4 mph (6.4 km/h). It is a Class 2 scooter: Sunrise designed it for pavements and for crossing roads, not for driving along the road.

How far will it go on a charge?

Up to 30 km (19 miles) is Sunrise's theoretical figure from its 35Ah batteries. Heavier riders, hills, rough ground, cold weather and older batteries all shorten it.

Will it fit in a car?

It comes apart into the seat, two battery packs and the front and rear sections, with no cables to undo. The heaviest piece, the front section, is 22.5 kg; the drive unit is 19.5 kg, each battery pack 12 kg and the seat 12.5 kg. Try the pieces in your own boot first.

What is the maximum user weight?

150 kg (23 st 8 lb). With a rider of that weight it is rated for slopes up to 10 degrees; up to 113 kg, 14 degrees.

What kerbs can it manage?

Up to 76 mm (3 inches). Sunrise advises using dropped kerbs and pedestrian crossings where you can.
