Before you buy a used Sterling S50 Carbon
How heavy is the S50 Carbon to lift?
Sunrise give 13 kg without the battery, seat cushion, armrests, storage bag and wheel trims. The battery comes out and weighs 1.9 kg. The cushion stays on when it folds, so with the cushion and armrests still on it weighs more than 13 kg; Sunrise do not give that figure.
How far and how fast will it go?
Up to 19.2 km (11.9 miles) on its 12Ah battery, and up to 6 km/h (4 mph), so it is a Class 2 pavement scooter. The range is the maker's figure: a heavier rider, hills, kerbs, cold weather and an older battery all shorten it.
What is the maximum user weight?
120 kg (18 st 12 lb), including anything carried on the scooter.
How does it fold, and will it fit in my car?
In two steps, without taking anything apart: fold the seat flat, then lower the tiller and lock the handlebars in place. Folded, it is 530 mm wide, about 350 mm high and 1030 mm long, or 435 mm wide with the armrests off. Measure your boot against those figures.
Can I take it on a plane?
Sunrise say the lithium-ion battery is UN38.3 tested and meets the IATA rules for air transport. Each airline sets its own rules for mobility aids with lithium batteries, so check with yours before you book.
