Sunrise Medical · mid-wheel drive powerchair
Used Sunrise Medical Q500M
The QUICKIE Q500 M is a mid-wheel drive powerchair from Sunrise Medical, with the SEDEO PRO seat. It turns on the spot, is 610 to 620 mm wide on 13-inch drive wheels (635 mm on 14-inch), and has suspension on all six wheels for a steadier ride outdoors. It suits someone who needs a well-adjusted seat and wants one chair for indoors and out. Each Q500 M is built to order for its first user, so the speed, batteries, seat size, powered seat functions and footrests vary from chair to chair: each listing says what that chair has.

Before you buy a used Q500M
How fast does the Q500 M go, and how far?
Sunrise's UK page gives 6, 8, 10 or 13 km/h (3.7, 5, 6.2 or 8 mph), depending on the motors fitted; their owner's manual gives the fastest as 12.5 km/h (7.7 mph). Sunrise give the range for 80Ah batteries only: 32.5 to 40 km (20.1 to 24.8 miles) on the 6 km/h motors and 25 to 32.5 km (15.5 to 20.1 miles) on the fastest. Obstacles, rough ground, slopes, temperatures below freezing and frequent use of the powered seat shorten it. Each listing says what that chair has.
Why does each listing look different?
Every Q500 M is built to order for its first user: the motors, batteries, seat size, powered tilt, lift, recline and legrests, and the footrests all vary. Each listing says what that chair has, and we're happy to go through it on the phone.
Will it work indoors?
Yes. It is 610 to 620 mm wide on 13-inch drive wheels (635 mm on 14-inch) and, as a mid-wheel drive chair, it turns on the spot within 560 to 630 mm. Sunrise say it needs 1100 mm of space to turn round.
What powered seat functions can it have?
A chair may have powered tilt (up to 50°, depending on the option fitted), a 300 mm seat lift (always with tilt), powered recline and powered legrests. With C-Me, a chair with the lift can drive at up to 4.8 km/h (just under 3 mph) while raised. Not every chair has them: each listing says which it has.
What can it climb?
Slopes up to 6 degrees. Sunrise's UK page gives kerbs up to 50 mm, or 70 mm on 14-inch drive wheels; their owner's manual says 75 mm.
What is the maximum user weight?
136 kg (21 st 5 lb) on a chair with C-Me (driving while raised) or the 50° lift/tilt, and 160 kg (25 st 2 lb) on other chairs. Sunrise's UK page gives 160 kg; the lower figure is in their owner's manual. If the user is over 136 kg, ask us which this chair has.
