Quantum Rehab · rear-wheel drive powerchair
Used Quantum Rehab R-Trak
The Quantum R-Trak is a rear-wheel drive powerchair for indoors and out, with Quantum's Smooth Ride Suspension. Its base is 615 mm wide, which Quantum say makes it easier to manoeuvre than traditional rear-wheel drive chairs, and it has 101 mm of ground clearance. It carries up to 136 kg. Each chair was built to order for its first user, so the seat, the powered features and the top speed (4, 6 or 7 mph) vary from chair to chair.

Before you buy a used R-Trak
How fast does the R-Trak go, and how far?
4, 6 or 7 mph, depending on how the chair was ordered: in the UK Quantum fitted 4 mph motors as standard, with 6 mph and 7 mph as options. With the seat raised it drives at up to 3.5 mph. On its two 70Ah batteries, Quantum's UK page gives a range of up to 16 miles (16.34 miles on their spec sheet). Those are the maker's figures: the user's weight, hills, cold weather and older batteries all shorten it.
What is the maximum user weight?
136 kg (21 st 5 lb).
Will it fit round my home?
The base is 615 mm wide on standard wheels and 884 mm long without legrests (1130 mm with them). It has a turning radius of 653 mm. Quantum say the narrow base makes it easier to manoeuvre than traditional rear-wheel drive chairs.
What can it climb?
Obstacles up to 60 mm, going up or down, and slopes up to 7.5 degrees. It has 101 mm of ground clearance under the battery tray.
Can it go in a car?
It is heavy: the power base alone weighs 58 kg, and each battery 23.36 kg by Quantum's spec sheet. It has four tie-down points, which Quantum's manual says are for securing it in a vehicle with nobody sitting in it. The manual says it is not suitable as a seat in a vehicle unless the chair has Quantum's transit securement system and the vehicle has a proper wheelchair tie-down and occupant restraint system; a label on the base shows whether a chair is rated for this. Quantum's UK page says it is crash tested.
