Quantum Rehab · mid-wheel drive powerchair

Used Quantum Rehab Q6 Edge 2.0

The Quantum Q6 Edge 2.0 is a mid-wheel drive powerchair for indoors and out. Its drive wheels sit in the middle with a castor at each corner, giving it a turning radius of 521 mm, and Quantum's ATX suspension is there for a steadier ride over bumps. It carries up to 136 kg. Each chair was built to order for its first user, so the seat, the powered features and the top speed (4 or 6 mph) vary from chair to chair.

Before you buy a used Q6 Edge 2.0

How fast does the Q6 Edge 2.0 go, and how far?

4 mph or 6 mph, depending on how the chair was ordered: in the UK Quantum fitted 4 mph motors as standard, with 6 mph as an option. On its two 62Ah batteries, Quantum's UK page gives a range of up to 15 miles (their 2019 spec sheet says up to 19.7 miles). Those are the maker's figures: the user's weight, hills, cold weather and older batteries all shorten it.

What is the maximum user weight?

136 kg (21 st 5 lb).

Will it fit round my home?

The base is 620 mm wide on standard wheels and 902 mm long without legrests. Quantum's spec sheets give 735 mm across the armrests. With its drive wheels in the middle, it has a turning radius of 521 mm.

What can it climb?

Obstacles up to 89 mm, going up or down (Quantum's spec sheets say 90 mm), and slopes up to 6 degrees (their 2015 spec sheet said 7.5°). It has 69 mm of ground clearance under the battery tray.

Can it go in a car?

It is heavy: the power base alone weighs 63 kg without its batteries, and each battery 17.24 kg. It has four tie-down points, which Quantum's manual says are for securing it in a vehicle with nobody sitting in it. The manual says it is not suitable as a seat in a vehicle unless the chair has Quantum's transit securement system and the vehicle has a proper wheelchair tie-down and occupant restraint system; a label on the base shows whether a chair is rated for this. Quantum's UK page says it is crash tested.
