Before you buy a used Leon
How fast does the Leon go?
6 mph or 8 mph, depending on how the chair was supplied. Karma's spec table gives 10 or 12 km/h.
How far will it go on a charge?
Up to 30 km (18 miles) on the standard 50Ah batteries. Karma's spec table gives up to 45 km on bigger batteries. These are the maker's figures, measured with an 80 kg driver on new batteries: a heavier rider, hills, cold weather and older batteries all shorten it.
What is the maximum user weight?
136 kg (21 st 5 lb). Karma's 2019 web pages and Leon brochure said 140 kg, but their current pages and manual say 136 kg, so we give the lower figure.
Can I travel in a vehicle sitting in it?
Only in the sling-seat Leon, which is crash tested to ISO 7176-19 for travelling seated, facing forward, in a suitable vehicle, though Karma recommend moving to a vehicle seat if possible. Karma's manual says the captain-seat Leon cannot be used as a seat in a vehicle.
How long does it take to charge?
At least 8 hours, and up to 12 hours, depending on the batteries and the temperature, says Karma's manual.
