It has 10-inch tyres, a swivel seat, a front basket and a brake light, and it comes apart into five pieces without tools for transport. Before you buy a used Leo

How fast and how far does the Leo go?

Invacare's UK order forms give a top speed of 4 mph (6 km/h) for both the three- and four-wheel Leo. At that speed Invacare gives the four-wheel Leo a range of up to 21 miles (34 km); it gives no three-wheel range at 6 km/h. Invacare's UK web page and brochures give 8 km/h instead. These are the maker's figures; Invacare says hills, the rider's weight, cold weather, tyre pressure and the way you drive all affect them.

Will it fit in my car?

It comes apart into five pieces without tools (the seat, two batteries, and the chassis in two sections), so it can go in a car boot. But the two chassis sections together weigh about 46 kg on the four-wheel Leo. Invacare's manual warns that these are heavy parts to lift, so plan who will lift them before you buy.

What is the maximum user weight?

136 kg (21.4 stone), on both the three- and four-wheel versions.

Why does each listing look different?

Invacare made the Leo with four wheels or three. The three-wheel one is slightly shorter and lighter and turns in a tighter circle. Some also have puncture-proof tyres, a suspension seat or a lockable front box. Each listing says what that scooter has.

Can it go up kerbs and hills?

It climbs kerbs up to 6 cm, taken straight on. For slopes, Invacare's manual gives a dynamic stability of 6°, the more cautious figure; its rated slope is 10°. Invacare says to go downhill at no more than two-thirds of top speed, and never to turn round on a slope.
