Before you buy a used Luxe
How fast and how far does the Rascal Luxe go?
Up to 4 mph. How far depends on the battery and on the rider. Electric Mobility's figures are up to 7.6 miles on the airline-approved battery or up to 16 miles on the 27Ah battery for a rider at the 136 kg limit, and up to 10.3 or 21.7 miles for a 90 kg rider. Its 2024 sheet gave up to 13 and 27.5 miles. Hills, cold weather, rough ground and an older battery all shorten the range.
Why does each listing look different?
Each Luxe was sold with one of two batteries: a small airline-approved battery with a 2A charger, or a 27Ah long-range battery with a Rapid 5A charger. The battery changes the range, the weight and whether you can fly with it. Each listing says which that scooter has, and we're happy to go through it on the phone.
Can I take it on a plane?
Only with the small airline-approved battery. Electric Mobility says it meets the UN38.3 air transport rules and can be taken on a plane, subject to the airline's own rules, so always check with the airline before you book. The 27Ah battery is not airline compliant.
Will it go in my car boot?
It comes apart for the boot. The heaviest piece is the front section at 10.8 kg, and the seat is 8.7 kg. The battery pack weighs 4.1 kg or 6.7 kg, depending on which it has. With the seat back and tiller folded it measures 103.5 × 49.5 × 71 cm, so measure your boot first.
What is the maximum user weight, and who does it suit?
136 kg (21.4 stone). Electric Mobility says the seat and leg room suit riders from 4 ft 11 in to over 6 ft 4 in tall. The seat is 44 cm wide and 41 cm deep.
Can it manage kerbs and slopes?
It is a pavement scooter for fairly level ground. Electric Mobility gives a maximum kerb of 5 cm (2 inches), up or down, a maximum safe slope of 6° and 4.5 cm of ground clearance. Use dropped kerbs where you can.
